About the company
History
It is extremely difficult to briefly present the history of a company that for over a century has been gaining experience and introducing new technologies to become a prosperous joint stock company. However, it all began ...
… in 1895 with a small family enterprise – the pharmaceutical warehouse of Skład Apteczny J. Magierski i S-ka. Twenty years later, Stanisław Magierski began manufacturing floral toilet water, and then after the Second World War the production of cosmetic creams and soap, shaving soap, toothpaste and cosmetic powder was added. The end of the war also saw a change in the politics of the nation, and in order to survive the company was transformed into Spółdzielnia Pracy Perfumeryjno-Kosmetyczna (Cosmetic and Perfumery Cooperative) in 1950. At the same time the name “Permedia” was coined, and when two years later the owners of the company were forced by the government to merge three cooperatives into one, Chemiczna Spółdzielnia Pracy “Permedia” (“Permedia” Chemical Cooperative) was born.
After the merger the management of the cooperative decided to begin production of iodoform gauze and almond water, as well as to continue manufacturing perfumes and cosmetics and to add oil paint, oil varnish and millstones.
By the end of 1950s the company had begun working towards implementing cadmium pigment production, this took several years but, as a result of the considerable demand for this kind of dyestuffs, the company started to export its products. Since then cadmium pigments, cadmium carbonate and oxide pigments have constituted the core business of “Permedia”.
In 1972 the entire chemical production was integrated into one plant, a situation that continues today. The mid-1970s saw the beginning of the production of oxide pigments for enamel producers as well as cobalt oxide and then purified nickel sulphide for ironworks. Soon afterwards the company was transformed into a state owned enterprise - Lubelskie Zakłady Przemysłu Nieorganicznego “Permedia” (Lublin Plant of Inorganic Industry) In 1980, after a new production hall was built and properly equipped, the first deliveries of purified nickel sulphide were made to “Centra” plant in Poznań. Rapid development entailed a number of modifications, the new production facility being completed and equipped with state-of-the-art production lines producing pure nickel sulphide.
As a result of privatisation in 1994 the company was transformed into a joint stock company known as Zakłady Chemiczne “Permedia” S.A. Four years later, on 14 May 1998, the company stocks were listed for the first time on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
The history of Permedia is in fact the history of a company that for many years has been one of the largest suppliers of inorganic pigments in Poland. It has been developing dynamically and working towards creating new products and improving its already existing product formulas. Today we continue to experiment with new production processes based on modern technologies and chemical compounds.
Our mission is to change the world that surrounds us into a land of colours based on the products we manufacture. We feel that the best way to change the surrounding world is by working closely with our clients.
